3 Promises of Heaven

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

This scripture gets me every time. It speaks to the depths of my soul because it is so true. We are not meant for this world. Our heart knows it, our mind knows it, even our body knows it. As humans, we are always longing for something more. There’s got to be something more, something greater, something better out there. Do you know why even as a child you felt those things? Because God set that in your heart, from the very moment you were born. He placed that longing that only He can fill. Try as you might to fill that void with worldly things, money, drugs, alcohol, sex, relationships, friendships, food, education, etc. but it will never suffice.

It reminds me of John 4, when Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman:

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Man, what a promise! Just a sip of this ‘living water’ and we are promised eternal life. Eternity. What He set in our hearts from the beginning. God places that longing in our hearts for something more because he wants us to not only search for the living water, but to find it. Jesus is the answer!

Last week, at church, we were challenged to write down what we thought heaven would be like. And then to go back and do a Bible study on what the Bible actually says about heaven.

I thought this was an amazing idea! And I was so excited to get started. I knew some scriptures on what heaven would be like but I was excited to go a little deeper and refresh myself on these promises.

I wanted to share 3 scriptures on God’s promises of Heaven for those who believe

Jesus is already preparing a room, specifically for you

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

John 14:1-3

I LOVE this scripture. And I feel like Jesus is speaking directly to my worrisome soul with his words. I love that Jesus wants me to be with him where he is.

He wants this for everyone.

He wants to spend eternity with you. This is also convicting for me. Because if I also want to spend eternity with Jesus, then I should probably be spending time with him here in this life. Meaning, I should be digging deep into his Word, praying diligently, and spending time with the body of believers. If I’m not doing these things and spending time with Jesus while I am here in this world, why would I want to spend eternity with him in Heaven, praising Him?

He is already preparing a room, specifically for you! How amazing is that! I like to think that my room will be filled with shiplap, antiques, and stocked with cookies and cream. Haha.

But seriously. Can I put that order in now big guy? 😉

There will be no more pain or sadness

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21: 4

This is comforting. In a world full of these harsh realities, it is relieving to know that we will not have to deal with these things when we get to heaven.

I will no longer mourn the deaths of loved ones, the loss of friendships, the pain of rejection.

He will wipe away every tear I have cried. In fact, he has collected them:

You keep track of all my sorrows.[a]

You have collected all my tears in your bottle.

You have recorded each one in your book.

Psalm 56:8

It is beautiful knowing that God has kept track of every single tear I have shed. I imagine that His reason for doing this is for the moment we enter Heaven. He probably will hand us that bottle so that we, ourselves, can shatter it. Knowing that we will never feel those pains again.

Yes, Heaven is actually made of Pearls and Gold

21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass

Revelation 21:21

Can you imagine? I sure can’t! If you get a chance, I encourage you to read all of Revelation 21. It gives a detailed description of what Heaven will look like. I’ve read it several times, but I still don’t understand how it can be possible! But this doesn’t surprise me. How could my small human mind ever comprehend the glory of my Father?

9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—“

1 Corinthians 2:9

These are just a few scriptures on God’s promises of Heaven. I have absolutely loved studying this out and I’m not finished with it yet either. What have you been studying out lately? What other promises of Heaven do you find amazing?

  1. Beautifully written. It has so much
heart. I love to remember thru God’S Word that this world is not my home so my perspective changes i.e. worries, anger, desires, status quo, finances and more. And we do say we want to go to heaven, yet we get so scared to die, or not to measure up. The world continues to pull us down, on the opposite direction
yet only the presence of God in our lives thru the workings of the Holy Spirit could bring us to that sweet surrender.
